Because you are reading this website page, you are probably planning a wedding. We at Kirk in the Hills want you to have a wonderful wedding and would like to help you. From our experience of working with countless other couples, we have developed a process which will help your wedding to move more smoothly, while providing a positive foundation for your marriage. We do wonderful weddings at the Kirk—and lots of them. We are able to provide this high level of care because we are very specific about the nature and content of the wedding ceremony itself.
We take marriage very seriously at the Kirk. “Marriage is a gift God has given to all humankind for the well-being of the entire human family” (Book of Order, W-4.9001). There are several things we believe that inform and inspire our weddings.
A wedding service is a worship service, and, therefore, we approach each wedding with the same level of thoughtfulness and sanctity as a worship service on Sunday morning. We do not acknowledge the latest fads or fashions, preferring to honor God and God’s people with a traditional service that is classic and timeless.
A wedding is the public celebration of the covenant between the couple, their families, the congregation and God. We are able to provide weddings only for church members or the children/grandchildren of members. While some may consider this to be exclusionary, we see it as being faithful to this covenant, to celebrate this God-given love within the context of the community of faith.
