What's Happening at the Kirk

Now that we’re getting into the swing of the summer garden services, we have a change in prospect for this Sunday!

The work on the front patio is going to be completed by this weekend, and we’ll serve the after-service coffee and punch there.  This will avoid the rush to clear chairs away after the garden service is over but, more importantly, allow us to show signs of life to motorists driving past the church on Long Lake Road.  We don’t always realize how well hidden most of our parking lots are, and therefore, how little indication of congregational life the passing motorist can glimpse.  The new front patio will put the after church coffee hour front and center (at least for the summer months) and indicate that there are real and lively people at the Kirk!  We are planning to have some garden umbrellas in place to provide shade and add to the lively scene.  If you are a second service regular, we hope you’ll come early and enjoy some pre-service fellowship too!

We are delighted to welcome Dr. AL Timm, Executive Presbyter of the Presbytery of Detroit to the Kirk this weekend.  He will preach at the garden service at 9:15 a.m. and in the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Timm will preach on one of the great passages in the New Testament, Romans 5:1-11.  The central truths of that chapter remind us that whether we face joys and success or trouble and worry in our lives, we cope better when we live by faith.  Our faith in Jesus Christ gives us a great foundation for living, and cause to be hopeful and joyful, even if the skies are grey.  And we strike then a note of confident faith in the opening bracket of praise hymns, "To God be the Glory" and "He’s got the Whole World in His Hands".

The 10:30 a.m. class, "The Daily News and the Good News" meets again this week, with the topic "Faith in the Economy?" which will focus on the economy and the Christian attitude to money and hard financial times.  This class meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Upper Room and all are welcome.

Remember, the Mission Hamper is collecting cleaning supplies, paper towels, toilet paper, and Kleenex this Sunday for Fort Street and Grace Centers of Hope. Donations may be placed in the hampers located in the Tower of the Apostles and the refectory foyer.

See you in church for another great Sunday!
