What's Happening at the Kirk: Sunday, August 29, 2010
Sunday’s coming and we look forward to welcoming you to church for another stimulating guest preacher, with a bonus of particular interest for students getting ready to go to college and their families.
Rev. Julie Marks is the dynamic Director of Campus Ministries at First Presbyterian, Ann Arbor and we are pleased to welcome her to the Kirk.
Julie will preach on “To See and Be Seen,” based on the scripture reading John 1:35-42. Julie is bringing a couple of the students she works with to share in the service and to be available to field inquiries about campus ministry afterwards.
There will be a table on the patio between services where Julie will be, along with the students. They will be there to meet people, answer questions, etc. They will have the Campus Ministry newsletter and a sign-up sheet if people would like to be added to the mailing list.
However, Julie adds in an email, “Though I hope that sharing the vision of Campus Ministry moves people to participate and want to know more, my visit is first and foremost about preaching the Word of God and pointing people to Christ, not Campus Ministry.”
This Sunday the “Daily News, Good News” class tackles a topic that arises from the recent study that has shown that without the benefit of gravity, astronauts in space become as weak as 80-year-olds. The lesson then asks if there is a parallel between that phenomenon and Christians who become spiritually weak when they don't "abide" in Christ.
We’re hoping for good weather to be able to enjoy the beautiful garden setting at the first service and the patio between services for fellowship.
See you in Church!
