Rev. Dr. Norman M. Pritchard, Pastor

Rev. Dr. Norman M. PritchardNorman M. Pritchard was born in Glasgow, Scotland and studied for the ministry of the Church of Scotland at the University of Glasgow and Trinity College, where his teachers included Professors William Barclay and Murdo Ewen Macdonald. He holds an Honors M.A. degree in Classics, an Honors B.D. and an M. Th. in New Testament, and later gained the degree of D. Min. with a concentration in preaching from Fuller Theological Seminary in California, USA.

After three years as Assistant Minister at St. George's West Church in Edinburgh, he became minister of St. Andrew's Church, West Kilbride, a congregation with 1400 members, a vigorous youth program and a thriving congregational life.

In 1979, he was called to be Senior Minister of the Scots Church, Melbourne. He organized and participated in many worship services of state and national significance held at Scots Church. In 1981 he preached before Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II when she worshipped at Scots and the next year the Prime Minister was present for the service held on the National Day of Mourning for the Victims of the Ash Wednesday Bush Fires in Victoria and South Australia.

Dr. Pritchard has always ministered in congregations where the preaching demands are high. He has been regularly invited to be guest preacher at special services in other churches and these invitations have taken him throughout Australia as well as to New Zealand, America and several cities in Scotland.

In 1996, he and his family moved to the USA as he took up a call to become Senior Pastor, Head of Staff of the Kirk. As Pastor, he oversees the Kirk's worship services each week and the extensive congregational programs, many of which are being expanded and developed to increase the church's involvement in and ministry to the wider community.

Dr. Pritchard's ministry has always included service in the wider church and community. In Australia, he served as Moderator of the General Assembly in 1986, several years on the Human Ethics Committee of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and the Council of Scotch College, Melbourne, including ten years as Deputy Chairman. He has had considerable experience in broadcasting, both in Scotland and in Australia, and in publishing. His first book, The Persistence of Faith, a pocket commentary on Philippians aimed at adult Bible classes, was published by Albatross, Australia in 1993. He has contributed articles and book reviews to various scholarly journals.

For over thirty years Dr. Pritchard has been married to Joan, who was formerly head teacher in a junior school in Melbourne and now teaches in the elementary school at Detroit Country Day School. They have two adult children.  Andrew lives locally and daughter Gillian lives in England with her husband, Stuart, and their children, Caitlin and Lachlan.
The Pritchard family enjoys theater, music, travel, sports and visiting together.
